Goal

• To produce NADPH, for glutathione pathways
  • If Glucose-6-P dehydrogenase (G6PD) is defected, RBCs are vulnerable to oxidizing agents
• Additionally, this pathway yields ribose for nucleotide synthesis.
• Occurs in cytoplasm of liver cells
